  • Cabin Fever

Sorry, I am still stuck on cabins.

Once upon a time.......back in 1971 while we were on furlough from Africa,   some friends from church asked if we would like to go stay in their cabin in the High Sierras.

Would we?  Of course we would!  And so we drove there, hubby and me and 4 young-uns.                                                                      When we got there we were amazed!  The "cabin" had 2 bedrooms and a bath upstairs;  Downstairs there was a bedroom, bath, laundry room, kitchen, dining area and sunken living room.  There were beautiful paintings on the walls (the husband was an artist.)  There was even a grand piano in the living room!

The living room windows were floor to ceiling and wall to wall, overlooking the forest with lots of pine trees, and a creek that ran at the bottom of a gentle hill.  We thought we'd died and gone to Heaven.

I don't have any pictures of that cabin, but I do have a picture of an African house, which Americans would probably consider a cabin.  I think an artist must have lived in this cabin too.

  • I can see why, we would consider it a cabin.... It looks on the same order as a cabin....

That must have been a very beautiful time of resting for you all, up in those Sierra Mountains, just relaxing, and enjoying the summer.....

  • My family built a two story log cabin in Arnold, California when I was nine. They didn't sell it until Dad passed, so we spent many happy vacations up there in the Sierras romping through the wood, sailing on the lake in a small sailboat. Such good times. We always referred to it as The Cabin". Thanks for bring the memories right back to the front of my memory. HUGS!

  • It looks great to me. Nice looking cabin.

  • I like the thatched roof and the door to the cabin in the picture.

  • Wow. It is really all perspective... If you live in a cardboard box having a permanent home (even a primitive one)is like a dream come true!!

  • Yes, the American version of cabin was definitely not your typical one! :)
Wonder how long it took them to do that thatched roof?

  • What a wonderful Cabin get away...WOW!!
