Introducing Mr. McBird
Here is proof positive that the canary we had was a girl and not a boy.
So we made a trip south to exchange her for a him.
Voila..........Mr. McBird, also known as Mac. I heard him sing at the lady's house. Of course, there were lots and lots of birds there. She said she had 30 or 40 baby birds, plus the adult birds. Not to mention some baby cockatiels that she is hand-feeding. And a small parrot-like bird who loves her husband. It can talk too. On top of all that, they have a mama St. Bernard who just had puppies. I wanted to see them, but they said they were too young, and the mama dog is very protective. My hubby was glad I didn't get to see them. I think he was afraid I would want to take one home. Smile. So we came home and that evening we found this visitor by our front door. (Please ignore the dirt.)
Mac is not singing here yet. I think he's still adjusting to a new life. He's eating well, flying around, and chirping. No real song yet though.

I'm sure Mac will burst out in song once he adjusts to the new home. I love your toad and you should too. They eat their weight in bugs daily! Probably keeps the mosquito population under control!
I don't mind toads at all. We haven't seen him since that evening. I expect he's living happily under the plants along the walkway.
Glad they were able to switch birds for you. Enjoy the taod!
Nice! Congrats on your Male Mac. He's a pretty bird, and will hopefully provide you with much enjoyable music and entertainment. Say hello to Mr. Toad for me.
The toad with Mac are going to make a concert both of them !!:)
Love
Michel
Thei makes me smile. Nature's concert, written and conducted by the Creator.
RYC : With the cherries,my wife makes jam, clafoutis, pies and ...wine !
Yumm! I don't know what clafoutis is.
Enjoy your new "him" canary.
If this one lays eggs, I'm going to give up. Kind of like the Arab man we net in Africa years ago. He had 3 wives and 12 daughters, no sons. He said, "That's my work....fathering girls.
in Fort Worth about 5 peacocks showed up in a neighborhoods trees and it was a mystery but they came from a Peacock farm out in the country that has been there since the 1950's and supply the feathers that face off the 30 plus peacocks for fashion. LOL
The news people made sure they got back home.
Laying eggs is a dead giveaway on the sex issue. lol
Some people have a great life. I bet those puppies would melt anyone's heart.
may he sing very soon!
Wow!! Enjoy Mac!! Pretty bird....I'm not so sure about your toad though.....When they get up close to a house, they are trying to find a way to get inside....
Call me crazy, if you want, but if you look at that picture, slightly to the side, you'll see the face of a cat....Threw me off for a second or two....Cute!!
Is it true that only the males sing?
Baby birds all chirp. Females keep chirping. Males sing a definite song. The pattern varies from bird to bird, but once a particular male develops a pattern, he tends to sing the same thing over and over. I once had a male canary who sang a lot when he was young, then hardly ever when he was older. I figure he just got discouraged. No enemies to fight, no young to protect, and no females to attract = no reason to sing.
I replied on my site, but think I forgot to check the box by your picture. The short answer is yes.
Cute little birdie!! Is that a frog or a toad? I always get them confused.
That one is a toad. Our frogs are either the tiny tree frogs that kind of chirp, or the frogs that live in our pond. They're a shiny green.
