Month: July 2014

  • After went walked around the Biblical Garden, we went across the street to see the flowers in the park's garden. See how close both gardens are to the road and the railroad tracks?

I'm going to try uploading all the flower pictures at once, and see what happens.

Yay! That was much quicker than one at a time. Now I can say good night, and go back to my library book.  See you tomorrow, maybe.

  • Our Town

Here are some interesting sites in our town.

This was a watchtower for the railroads. It used to have stairs going up to the little room on top, but they were taken down. I think they were afraid of people climbing them, falling off, and suing the city.

When you get up close you can see a statue of a watchman in the tower. Below is the plaque thatt ells about the tower. I don't know if you can read it or not.

The next building used to be the county jail. Now it is a museum.

    101_0402

And last of all, the county courthouse which nowadays houses  county offices. The courtrooms, and other offices are in the new Justice Building across the street.

  • Biblical Gardens

The Biblical Gardens is small, but interesting.  There are markers naming all the trees and plants.  There are 2 grape arbors, with lots of concord grapes that are still green.  There was an apricot tree with small apricots on the ground, none of them in good enough shape to eat though.  There is a small herb garden, and a vegetable garden.  I checked the pea plants, but the pea pods had turned yellow.  The gardens are just off a state highway, so the constant traffic, and an occasional train kind of spoil the atmosphere.   There is a dry brook, and also a brook with water.   And the water fountain where hubby took my picture.  Here are some of the pictures I took.

I think the tree in the last picture is a tamarisk tree. It smelled good. There were also fir trees, and 1 or 2 olive trees. We didn't see any fruit on them.

  • Fourth of July Weekend

We had a quiet, but pleasant weekend.  We did not make it to the concert in the park or the fireworks Fri. night.  We did see fireworks from our living room and the deck on Sat. night.  We think the local golf club sponsored them.  Sun. evening  hubby took me to town to see the statues.  I think it's a traveling exhibit.  The statures are made out of bronze by Seward Johnson.  He has a website.........www.sewardjohnson.com.  I took a few pictures.

That's the county courthouse in the background.

Even the bills are made of bronze.

The sun was shining when I took these pictures, so I just aimed and hoped. I didn't realize until I saw this picture on the computer that my husband was reaching for the gun. Haha.

We found this statue near the gardens. The flowers were beautiful. I'll show you some of them next time.

We also walked through the Biblical Gardens. Then we went to eat at a Chinese restaurant. I brought home enough food to eat for several lunches. Smile.

  • Artists at Work and Play

    Hard at work.............................................

    101_0375

This lovely creation never was finished. Young artists have short attention spans.

Lest you think Evie never smiles, here is a mischievous smile.

    101_0374

Time for indoor art. This is her tower.

    101_0377

And here is her sister's creation. I know you recognize the stars. I thought the yellow things might be suns, but I was wrong. They are caterpillars.

    101_0376

This next week daycare will be open again. I won't be able to play as much. Guess I will have to get some work done.

  • Disasters

It's a mess. We're still waiting to see what insurance is going to do. The owner of the powder coating business wants to rebuild his business, but we don't yet know when or where. We would prefer to just sell the land. It's a good location......near WalMart and Lowes and across the road from the airport. Time will tell.

Actually this disaster is nothing compared to what happened during the storm Tues. night.Just a few miles from here a tree fell on a trailer, and a 14 year old boy was killed. This is the same trailer park where several of our children and grandchildren lived. The trees, of course are old, as the park has been there a long time. There were lots of other trees down too, but I didn't hear of any other injuries. I didn't know the boy or his family. The news said he lived with his grandmother who is sick. The community has set up a fund to help her with funeral expenses.

But life goes on for the rest of us. My grand-daughters' day care is closed this week, so I've done a lot of babysitting.  Plus cable was out on and off yesterday, so not much internet access. Our power was only out Tues. night for about 2 hours. I think others may still be without power. Yesterday, I had 2 caps replaced. I hired 3 older grandkids to babysit the 2 younger ones while I was at the dentist having 2 crowns replaced. Speaking of crowns, the day before that the 2 little girls wanted to play Princesses. We made a tent Castle, and later made crowns. Here is the Castle, with one of the few pictures I have of the little one smiling.
