  • Coffee and Corn

Our kids brought us some very special coffee.  I had read about it, but never expected to taste any.

It was a gift to them from someone in their church.

In case you can't read it, it says that it is the rarest gourmet coffee in the world. It is made from coffee beans that have been in a civet's digestive tract. It's from Sumatra.
Some in our family declined to try it. I had some and it was good but it just tasted like coffee to me. I am not a coffee expert. My son-in-law says he can drink it and it doesn't make his stomach hurt, because the acid has been removed by the digestive juices of the civet. What my husband wants to know is who ever thought of trying such a thing? I did notice that it was very smooth and mild. I don't like strong bitter coffee. Forgive me Frank, but I don't really like Starbucks coffee. I mean plain coffee. Not the fancy drinks with loads of sugar and flavorings.
My post is named coffee and corn, so here goes the corn part.

Hannah's mom and dad went out and left her with us. We were eating corn on the cob and thought she should have some. At first she didn't know what to think about it.  This is her grandma feeding it to her.

When she finally figured out it was to eat, she picked it up in one hand and chewed on the end of it.  Babies are so cute.  Everyone has gone home now, and we are alone, for awhile at least.

  • How old is Hannah? I love it when they try all these new foods. My grandsons used to chew on a KFC drumstick after most of the meat was removed. it helped soothe the teething discomfort. (I think)

    • Hannah is almost 11 months old. Once we left our firstborn with some friends for a short time. When we came back to get her she was sitting in a high chair, happily chewing on a chicken leg. They had removed most of the meat and that long narrow bone. Being new parents, we were surprised, to say the least.

  • I agree with you about Starbucks coffee, just plain old coffee with cream, no sugar is best for me. Thinking about coffee being washed out of a potty type environment? Ummmm....I don't think I would try it either. :D I haven't had corn on the cob yet this year! Yum!

    • Tom has been buying corn from a farm near his work. It's $4. a dozen, which I think is a little high, but they are nice big ears, and it is delicious.

  • The coffee - well, I don't like any coffee so the rare stuff would be wasted on me. That people would pay lots of money for this seems silly but then I bet it is a real boon for the Sumatran economy! So a win-win situation. The corn has been expensive and we only had really good corn from the market once. We might have to visit Charlie's Corn - a makeshift stand. I hear he has good corn...

  • Sweet corn is always welcomed with me....

I don't think I ever gave a chicken bone to my kids when they were pre toddlers.

I read about the "digested coffee beans" and did not know they have less acid. I have started to drink the "free" coffee that people leave behind. I like sugared, caramel and other sweetened coffees but yeah if I had heartburn I suppose I could cut down on acided coffee.....

  • I love coffee - good, black coffee ~ and that sounds interesting.

  • oh my ~ sounds a little strange, but somebody must like it, right? :D
