  • Monkey see, Monkey do.

"Do as I say, not as I do."  It doesn't matter how many times we say that to our kids.  They will do as we do (plus maybe add a few things we hadn't even thought of.)  Here is a positive example of training our children.

TX daughter wanted to sweep the leaves off the porch before her grand-daughter decided to eat them. Grand-daughter loved the broom. Think I'll look for a child-sized broom to send her next time someone makes a trip to TX.

Please don't tell anyone what I labelled this post.  I don't want anyone to think that I think the little one is a monkey.  I would be in Big Trouble.  She's much smarter and cuter than a monkey.  I guess some folks do call their kids little monkeys, or give them cute? nicknames like Hannah Banana, or Tony Baloney.  I wonder why we call people honey?  Or why the French think "mon petit chou" is an endearing term.  Really, my little cabbage?  I don't know any terms like that in any other languages.  Do any of you?

  • What a little darling she is!! Monkey see Monkey do, is a good description of a little one, wanting to do what Mommy and Daddy, or Grandma and Grandpa are doing....

I remember when my two girls were babies.... They constantly wanted to help mommie, so I bought them little brooms, and dust pans...

When my broom and dustpan came out, so did theirs.....But....By the time they were 3, forget it, lol!! They loved playing far more than helping mommie, lol!!

  • sometimes, we call little ones a "little peanut" or "a little punkin" ~ maybe not too far off from a cabbage ~ :)

  • We are all about nicknames for those we love and those we don't! My brother in law calls my sister his "little rutabaga" but it is all in fun. hehe!

  • The term rug rat is used for small kids and that is not very complementary. Role modeling has its limits and other problems. One black athelete told his fans he was not a good role model and yeah a lot of adults admit that fault.

  • yup. I know a lot! How about, " you are a piece of my liver" to start with?

  • The scary truth is that kids mimic us--words accomplish almost nothing---my opinion.

  • So funny. Children do like brooms. I called mine monkeys and some other things like stinkers, sometimes. :-) I call Lee Hon and baby has picked it up and calls him Hon too. It sounds so cute coming from him. Frank says words accomplish nothing? I hope he's wrong about that. Sometimes they hurt too. :-)

    • I think words help when the adult's behavior backs up the words. Otherwise they're mostly useless. You're right, words can hurt. They can discourage or encourage. Tone of voice is important too. You can say all sorts of mean things to a dog or cat as long as you say them in a nice voice. Kids pick up on that sort of thing.

  • Yes the small children love imitate the adults until they build their own personality but later it will remain some of the behavior they learnt when they were a child
    Very intersesting posr
    Love
