  • Something New

Remember the saying "You learn something new every day?"  Well, I learned something new yesterday.  We were talking to a friend we hadn't seen in a long time.   A small plane was going over.  I wondered if it was a crop duster.  It wasn't.  It was an old plane coming in for an air show we had this weekend.  We got to talking about crop duster planes.  This friend told us that they are now used for planting wheat.  I had no idea!  They do it all using GPS.  Maybe that's why we saw so many fields of wheat this year?  This was the first year we've ever had anything other than corn or soybeans in the field across the street.  And neither hubby or I can remember that field being planted.  It was harvested the normal way.  I found this interesting, so am sharing it.  It's an interesting world we are living in.  Sometimes a little scary, but God is still in control.

  • I would have loved to fly in one----many around as a kid.

  • You can plant wheat from an airplane?

  • I would have never guessed! Isn't that kind of a Biblical method? Just scatter the seed and hope it lands on fertile soil and not in rocky ground??

    • since the Bible was written before people had GPS technology I guess that's how they had to do it. If you find wheat growing in your yard, you can figure the pilot's coordinates were off.

  • I prefer the plane throws seeds of wheat than bombs!!!
They say the farmers made the sowing and the harvest with computers !!!

  • Some seeds literally "self plant" itself by using the bomb method of exploding the pod.

Most wild oats have their "barbs" that hook onto passing animals.

The worst example of seed dispersal is Tribulus which has caldrops that puncture tires and "stick" to the shoes by embedding onto the rubber sole.

  • I heard about that type of wheat planting....I know that some of these fields were planed by a "crop duster" plane....

They say planting this way, spreads it out evenly.....I would love to see it done, but we no longer living in the farming area.....

  • Glad they found a new use for the plane.
I haven't seen a crop duster in years.
