  • Moro Rock

Have any of you ever climbed Moro Rock in Sequoia Natl. Park in Calif?  I climbed it at least 3 times when I was much, much younger.  I don't know if I could climb it now, and I don't know if I would if I could. Probably not.

My dad took us to Sequoia several times.  We rode in the back of his pick up truck.  No seat belts, and he was not what you would call a cautious driver.  So much fun!

At the top.  I'm the one with the dark hair, and my brother is beside me.  The other girl is my friend and her brother.

    Dad, Morro Rck

This is my dad. He was good looking, wasn't he?

I had a crush on the older boy in the back. He later became an artist, moved to New York, and died of a drug  overdose. Very sad, although I had moved on to other boys by then. Not that I had many boyfriends. I was Way too shy for that. I really only had 2 before I met my husband. Both of them were after I graduated from high school. I don't know what happened to one of them. The other one married a friend of mine and became a seminary professor.

I'm so glad my dad did this for us. I'll never forget Moro Rock, Crystal Cave, the huge redwoods, Crescent Meadow, Kings" Canyon.  A beautiful part of the world.

  • What fabulous photo's.
How sad about the boy you had a crush on.

    • Yes, it was sad as we knew the family well. That was when the drug culture was just getting started. His picture was on the cover of a magazine just after it happened. It was either "Life" or "Look". I've forgotten which one.

  • King's Canyon and Sequoia and Yosemite are wonderful places -- I never climbed Moro Rock, but it looks like a fun climb!

  • Great photos.

    • My father took the pictures. They were slides. I have no idea what kind of a camera he used. Tom bought me a gadget so I could put slides on my computer.

  • Thank you for sharing these photos!

  • At seeing your moro Rocks photos we have the impression this is today.

    • We studied French for a year in Africa. Our teachers were Swiss. Then we learned Sango, the trade language and hardly ever used French, so we've forgotten most of it. Domage.
I probably will keep on taking Amiodarone. I'm taking the lowest dosage. I have to go every 6 months or so to have my lungs and thyroid checked. So far I am fine. The Dr. says to avoid stress. In my life that is not possible. 7 children, 5 of whom live very close. 15 grandchildren. Eight great grandchildren and another one coming. Someone is always having a crisis. You understand.

  • Family vacation memories! How wonderful that your husband has given you the gift of sharing the photos! I often wonder what has become of some of the people from my childhood and school years. Too bad about the untimely death of the older boy. Too many were pulled into the drug culture before they appreciated the power and devastation of those substances...

  • I climbed Diamond Head in Hawaii once---long ago. lol
