  • Grapes

If we're friends on FB you may have already seen these pictures.  This is why I haven't posted for awhile.

I think the grapes must be trying to make up for the lack of apples this year.

Washing, and waiting for the bugs to crawl off.........little stink bugs, spiders, etc.

Stemmed and ready to cook, but no room yet in the big pot.

Aren't they pretty? I canned 8 pints of straight juice last night. There's still a pitcher of juice in the frig that I want to turn into jelly sometime today. Also about a pint in the freezer. Plus there are still more grapes on the vine. One of my grand-daughters came yesterday and I watched her 2 little girls while she picked a bucketful. It didn't take her long, which was good because it was So Hot out yesterday afternoon. Thankful that today is much cooler. Well, I'd better get dressed and get started. Two little grand-daughters will be over this afternoon, so I'll be busy then. I'd like to make oatmeal-raisin cookies for them first (and for me). Grin.

  • I love the smell of grape jelly - the real stuff not the fake in the store kind! There is no comparison! I used to make it but my grape supply disappeared when my friend's parents sold their house...

    • I finally found some grape jelly made without high fructose corn syrup at Kroger's. It's called Welch's all natural concord grape spread.
It's almost as good as home-made.

  • Just the way I'd like to spend my day... in bountiful harvest... the grapes and the grandchildren... what a treasure, what a joy... and oatmeal cookies don't sound half bad either. :-D

  • You teach me . Here the grapes are for the table or the wine . But I learn we can make jelly . But I have to say I live in northern France where there is not grapevines .
I will ask my wife if she knows this .
    Love

  • I can almost smell the aroma... and they are beautiful grapes! I love grape juice and grape spread (jelly, jam, etc.)! Nice harvest!

  • Wow... you do have a big Sept. birth-month! I didn't mention in my post, but if you start adding in all of Mike's family (Mom & sister & nephew)... that boosts it.
Your mom is 97! She looks great! . . . and is doing well, too, isn't she?

  • oh how I love home-canned grape juice! so yummy ~

  • How cool! Home made grape jam and juice are the best.
