  • Please Pray

Please pray for my husband, Tom.  You may remember that he had quadruple bypass surgery last March.  Then in December he had blood clots in his lungs, and was in the hospital a week.  Lately he has had an extremely persistent cough, no energy, not much appetite, plus swollen feet.  He saw our family Dr. a few weeks ago.  He listened to his lungs, and said they sounded clear.  Last Mon. he saw the cardiologist.  She said his heart is OK but he's still having some irregular heart beats.  She also said his heart is functioning at 35%, and she hopes it will get up to 50% as he gets better.  I need to ask her more about that, as I don't know if that is after the surgery, or after the blood clots.  She changed some of his blood pressure meds.  Also he is cold all the time........that could be from the coumadin he's taking.  Anyway, I'll call the family Dr. tomorrow morning.  (Why do people always get sick on the weekends?)

On top of all that, I'm supposed to have cataract surgery Wed. and a lens implant to lessen my large amount of astigmatism. Should be an interesting week.  My 97 year old mother is the healthiest one in the house.

  • Hope he will start feeling better very soon.
Feels cold all the time: Check for anemia.
Swollen feet: Check for anemia, especially if the lungs are clean. Sometimes the ejection fraction of the blood from the heart could be the culprit if it is 30% or lower.
Persistent cough: Check to see if he is on any Ace Inhibitors as his medications. Many times cardiologists prescribe this to patients after cardiac surgery, and people have persistent coughs. this improves dramatically within days when the medicine is discontinued.
    Keep us posted.

    • Thank you so much Zakiah. We went to the family Dr. today. He told him to stop taking the Lisinopril. which is an Ace inhibitor.
Dr. sent him for a chest Xray. Also they checked his blood. I'm not sure what for, but I will find out. They did say he still has some fluid around his heart. He's retaining fluid all over. Weight has gone from 200 to 224 in a month. He's not eating much. He goes back to the family Dr. Fri. (A man whom we taught in Sunday School when he was a little boy.) The following week he has an app't to talk with a PA who specializes in congestive heart failure. So it looks like we will be getting some answers.

  • It is sure I will pray for you both .

    • My husband is better. The Dr. changed some of his meds. He does, however, think that he has congestive heart failure. We're not surprised and not too worried, as we know several people who've had it for years and are still alive. I'm not worried about my eye surgery tomorrow. I was more worried about doing the eye drops right. But I did all right with them today, so I expect the rest to go well. Thanks for your prayers.

  • He is in my prayers.
