  • Traveling

I don't think I'm meant to travel.  I feel like a flower that's about to be uprooted.  We're only going to be gone a week or less.  It's ridiculous!  I'll be fine once we get started.  Hope I can sleep tonight.

  • TX Here we come

We will be leaving tomorrow for a quick trip to TX.  We'll see our youngest great-grand-daughter, as well as the rest of the family.  We plan to take 2 days to get there, and 2 to drive home, leaving us only 2 or 3 days to visit.  Our daughter and her husband are coming to sleep at our house, so my mother won't feel too lonely.  Another daughter lives next door, and the others are on alert that they might be needed.  My mother almost cried when I told her we were going.  She's very dependent on me emotionally.  Don't know if I'll have a chance to post before I get back.  Behave yourselves while I'm gone.

  • Cars and Stuff

This was an interesting exhibit at the Studebaker Museum.

    Miss. Piggy cracks me up.

It's really kind of an ugly car.
    101_0708
I was 13 when that model car (unaltered) was sold. At that time and for several years after, I could identify most of the cars on the road. Now I have no clue! All I know is when I look at a car and think "I like that one" it's usually a Lexus. At least I have good taste. The car I drive is a Chevy Impala about 5 years old, but without many miles on it. My mother picked it out for herself, but she quit driving soon after that. It's a boring tan color. Did you notice that most of the cars on the road now are boring tan? I consider them non-colors. If I were to buy a new car, I would want a pretty blue color. Maybe someday, but not any time soon. I'll probably be too old to drive by the time that happens, and I'll have to have my grand-daughters drive me around. That won't be all bad.

  • "A Dog ate your Snake."

That's what my brother announced to my husband as he came in the front door.  If you are afraid of snakes, don't worry, it's not real.

    101_0683

My husband went to a Farmers' Market, and decided he just had to buy this snake. He put it on the front porch, hoping to scare me, and told the 2 grand-daughters not to tell me, but the 5 year old can't keep a secret, so I wasn't scared. However I didn't like it. I was planning to let it stay there until he forgot about it, and then move it to a less conspicuous place.

Two weeks later while my brother was visiting, hubby went to the Farmers' Market again. My brother had taken our mother out to lunch for her birthday. When he came in the house, he made that announcement. I didn't know what in the world he was talking about, so I went to see what it was.  This is what I saw.

Much better, don't you think? We asked hubby what happened to the snake. He said he took it to the shop and put it in his office.
I wonder if we should name the dog?  Any suggestions?

  • Keepsakes and Momentos

I have had this little plaque since 1955. That's the year I graduatied from high school. It was a gift from my church.  It has traveled with me from California. to Indiana, acrpss the ocean to the Central African Republic, then to Pennsylvania, and back to Indiana again. It's amazing that it's not even chipped.  You never know how  a small gift or a few words or a kind deed might influence someone.  God has directed my paths, and while I don't always like the way they go, I know He knows best, and I try to follow without too much questioning or complaining.

  • 90 years is a long time.

At our Sept. Family Birthday Party, we celebrated a brand-new 2 year old, two 55 year olds, a 7 year old, and a 97 year old.

There is a picture of the 7 year old and the 97 year old on FaceBook, but I don't know if there is a way to put it on Xanga.  I tried, but it didn't work.  Here are some pictures of the 2 year old.

He will have a baby sister in December.

He loved this light toy. When he hits it on something it lights up all pretty.

The girl in pink is 3. The little one on the couch was 1 in August.

Here's the 1 year old again, enjoying the party.

  • My Brother's Visit

While my bother and sister in law were visiting we went up to South Bend to visit the Studebaker Museum.

This picture reminds me of the Robertson men on Duck Dynasty.

Love this picture of my baby brother and his wonderful wife.
After our visit to the museum we stopped at a chocolate store. No, we didn't spoil our appetites for an early supper. We've found a new (to us anyway) restaurant near the mall which serves Lebanese food. It was delicious. Sorry, no pictures.
They are home in Spain now, and I'm a bit lonesome. I did manage to buy a USB thingy for my computer so I can post pictures again. You may have noticed. Smile.
Also I found out that Xanga is giving 6 free months, so I'll be around here for at least that long. That makes me happy.

  • Words

I was thinking about interesting words today.  Some of them I looked up in the dictionary to make sure they were really words.  A couple of them I didn't bother looking up.  Here's what I came up with.  Maybe you will have some others.

    hornswoggle...........boondoggle........flibbertigibbet.........swashbuckler..........flotsam & jetsam........periwinkle.....                                        perdiddle........seersucker.......lollapalooza......lollygag........brouhaha.........hoopla..........fiddlefaddle.......floozy.... hogwash............slumgullion.......whippersnapper............whangdoodle.............boondogle.........bamboozle...........   wishywashy.

I know some of these need a - in the middle, but I was too lazy to put it in.  If I were a mean teacher, I'd assign you the homework of writing a story with these words, but I'm not.  Do you have any favorite funny words to share.   I don't actually use these words.  I just think they sound funny.

I still can't post any new pictures.  We had a great visit with my brother and his wife.  Talk to you all later.

  • Guess who

Yes, I had a waist in those days.

  • Reminiscing

Since I can't add new pictures, here are some old ones.100_0025
I'm not sure what year this was taken, but the baby will be 13 next month. The older girl (our youngest daughter) has 2 little girls now, ages 7 and 5.

    Darby and Sydney
These 2 little girls are now freshmen in high school.

    100_0031
The boy on the left is in his 20's and married. The younger boy is 20. The little girl is the blond in the other picture. I think she will be 15 soon. I lose track.

JaLara & Tierney, August 2004 - modified These 2 cuties are my grand-nieces. The picture has the date of 2004 on it, so they are 10 years older now.
Growth and change. Here's a creature that we found many years ago......I don't remember how many.
It's a hickory horned devil. They turn into regal moths. We never saw it in it's moth-life.

    hickory horned devil

It was big, about the size of a hot dog. I don't think they hurt you, but I didn't touch it to find out.
They go down into the dirt until they become moths. They like to live in hickory trees and pecan trees.
That's all for now. Happy New Week!
