  • Flat Tire!

Hi,  Nap's over.  Decided I'd better post this today, just in case.  It's a little bit complicated.

Youngest son is moving from MI to PA.  Hubby is taking truck and going up to MI to get his few belongings that are too big to fit into his car.  Later the 2 will meet at hubby's cousin's house in PA, and then take the stuff to son's new apt.  Sooo......yesterday we took my car to the shop to pick up the truck and bring it home.  I'm so thankful hubby was driving.  We were close to the shop when we heard an Awful Very loud noise.  I would have been terrified if it had happened while I was driving.  Flat tire.  Phoned oldest son who was at the shop fixing his lawn mower.  He came and brought the air compressor from the shop.  Tire would not hold air.  So son changed the tire and put on the little donut tire.  We drove to the shop.

Not long before, they had put a new transmission in the truck.  Hubby and son found out it was leaking, and got it fixed.  It would have completely run out of transmission fluid very soon if they had not discovered that.  So you see, the flat tire was a blessing.  It was also a blessing that it happened when and where it did.  I took a few pictures to show you.

While we were waiting for son to come, 6 people stopped or slowed down to ask if they could help.  That's what I like about living in a small town.  happy

Here is the thing that was in our tire.  No wonder it was making such a loud noise.  There is a scrap yard along this road, and it must have fallen off someone's truck.

When we finally got to the shop, I decided to take a few pictures while I was waiting for them to fix the transmission.  I thought you might enjoy these.

Sorry that last one is fuzzy.  Here's one more.

So now you know why I am thankful for a flat tire.

  • Aw, yes. That's happened to us, too. It's not the flat tire but the timing of it: you're glad it happened when it did.

  • God is good - even when there is a flat tire.

  • Glad hubby was with you.......I would have been scared had I been alone too!    Yep, God is good, even when there is a flat tire!

  • Sounds like you are in good (God) hands! Hope there are no surprises during the move!  The signs are very funny! hehe!

  • New cars have a sensor in each tire.  When the tires are filled with air, they must be within a pound or two of the same pressure.  If, as you drive, the pressure varies in any one tire, a light comes on in the dashboard.  The problem is that the pressure can vary on a particularly cold day or a particularly hot day.  Last Friday, the light came on -- for no apparent reason.  The temperature was not particularly hot or cold, and I couldn't see evidence of anything that would have leaked.  On Monday, I took the car in to have the light turned off -- there was a nail in the tire, and the tire could be patched -- BUT the dealership had been told not to patch tires, since there had been an accident caused by a failed patch and the dealer involved actually lost his dealership over the legalities of that accident!  While I understand the issues -- it's a nuisance to have sensors that come on seemingly arbitrarily!!!

  • @slmret - Mine were doing that, and each time the guys checked, they were OK. The sensor was on while we drove the short distance to the shop, because of the spare. We apparently ran over that spike just a minute or less after we crossed the intersection, and hubby pulled over right away.

  • So glad it all happened when it did. I'm a bit confused though--was it the car or the truck leaking transmission fluid?

  • @LadyoftheManse - It was the truck, which we are driving to Miich. today to get David's stuff. I'm not going to PA later, but going up to MI to say goodby.

  • Glad it happened when & where it happened. Not good, but could have been much worse. Praying for safety all the way around.

  • Glad everything was taken care of before they got on the road!! That is some piece of metal stuck in that tire!! Last month Larry's work van got a nail in it but he was lucky enough to be a few mins. from the house. When he got up the next work day he had to call AAA to tow it to the tire place and get it fixed before he could start work. We were so glad it wasn't on the interstate, at night, miles away!

  • you were lucky and hope your tire company gives you credit for the tread that is there.

  • Yeah, that would make a lot of noise and cause the tire to go flat.....We've had a flat, or two ourselves, but I don't think they were caused from anything that large!!I love the signs by the way....Kind of helps cheer up the day with a few laughs....

  • sorry to hear.glad alls well.

  • Glad you were able to get it fixed. Good laughs--thanks.
